Tiffany Haddish had been nominated for the 63rd Grammy Awards, but because she was on set filming her show on CBS rivaval “Kids Say The Darnedest Things”, she could not attend the event. Kids Say The Darnedest Things, is an unscripted variety show that features children giving their unfiltered views on the world and what’s going on in it.

She got the news of her Grammy win, whilst she was doing the show. The two amazing young girls on set with her at the time were part of this beautiful surprise. She shared with them that she’d just won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album. She also explained to them in a video she posted to her Twitter, that she was just happy to be nominated. She also acknowledged that she’s previously been nominated for a handful of awards, before being told that she had won Best Comedy album.

Haddish was in disbelief when her producer broke the news. She asked “I just won a Grammy? Are you serious?”. She broke down in tears and explained to the kids why she was crying; “It’s a lot of bumpy roads that you cross, right? And it’s a lot of times you feel like ‘Well, am I doing the right thing? Is this good enough? Am I good enough? Am I strong enough to do this job?’ And then you just have to believe in yourself as much as you can.”

This win makes Haddish the first Black woman to win the category in almost 40 years; Whoopi Goldberg was the last one to do it, back in 1985.

As she gave her acceptance speech, Haddish took the moment to inspire her young co-stars, letting them know that “Anything is possible.

The Grammy Award (stylized as GRAMMY, originally called Gramophone Award), or just Grammy, is an award presented by the Recording Academy to recognize achievement in the music industry. The trophy depicts a gilded gramophone. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by prominent artists, and the presentation of awards that have more popular interest.

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony took place on Sunday, March 14, at 7 p.m. CT, 8 p.m. ET, at the Los Angeles Convention Center and its surroundings. This year’s event was more of a hybrid event, as only a few people attended Live, and others virtually.
