Ange Didier Houon popularly known as Arafat DJ, an Ivorian singer also known as the King of Coupe Decale was born on January 26th 1986 to Tina Glamour, a popular Ivorian singer and late Pierre Houon who was a sound engineer.
He was first discovered in the early 2000’s as a DJ in Yopougon ,Abidjan Ivory Coast by fans and lovers of this music genre which is described as a mixture of deep bass, fast percussion, afro-beats and hip-hop style vocals. He quickly became nick-named Arafat, after the Palestinian Leader Yaser Arafat because of his tough nature, boldness and energy.
Throughout his rich music career which spanned through 15 years, he released 11 albums which were all successful, and quickly became the anthems of coupe-decale lovers and some African football professionals, who adopted some of his dance steps whenever they celebrated victory. He won the award for ” The Best Artist of the Year ” at the Coupe-decale Awards in 2016 and 2017, as well as two WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards for Best African Video and Best African Performance in 2016. Some of his popular songs are Kpongor, Zropoto, Boudha, Djessimidjeka, Agbangnan, Enfant Beni, Dosabado, Moto Moto, and Kong.
Arafat DJ was a lover of fast cars but especially Motorcycles and despite having multiple motorcycle accidents,including a very serious one in 2009, he continued riding them and even engaged in Fast Motorcycle competitions with friends until that unfortunate day of August 12th when he left the music scene forever. May his gentle soul RIP.
He died at age 33.
